Panel Speaking

Saturday 29 June

12.00-13.00

The potential for smart fashion is huge. In healthcare remote vital signs and movement sensing is allowing patients to take professional medical guidance and monitoring with them wherever they go.

In sports science marginal gains are being achieved through more comfortable training clothing and performance tracking kit. But what about our day-to-day outfit choices? Could the average wardrobe in 2050 showcase an industry-wide revolution in new materials, new technologies and new approaches to designing, producing and selecting clothes?

Will AI choose our outfits, or could the digital and 3D printing revolution help us better express who we are through what we wear? Can sustainable textiles and business models end the throwaway culture of £5 t-shirts and unethical manufacturing processes?

In this discussion, we’ll look at how innovation in clothing and wearable tech could keep us healthy, safe and on trend. We will explore what is currently holding back wider adoption, from unreliable performance to uncomfortable fit. And look at how design and science can come together in the future to smarten up our favourite outfits.

This event is free but booking is available to guarantee a place. Booking will open in June.

BBStudioGhostNetScienceGalleryDublin.jpg

https://fashionvrevent.eventbrite.co.uk

This special, sponsored edition of our VR Brighton Meetup will give you a chance to find out about how the fashion industry, which has always been at the forefront of experimenting with person-centred marketing channels, has creatively adopted emergent technology such as AR and VR as a medium for the masses, everything from AR mirrors as well as 360 video catwalks.

There will be a range of innovators and expert speakers describing how these technologies have revolutionised the consumer experience as well as hands-on experience with immersive demos.

Whether you work in fashion or are simply interested in how immersive technologies could empower this sector, this event is for you. Come along to network, collaborate and learn from likeminded individuals.

We are excited to announce that we will be joined by:

Sanj Surati, Founder of Tiger Heart who has developed an arresting Ocular Intelligence visualisation to show how people, industries and countries overlap. The visual highlighted how the connecting circles and strands of industry bisect and diverge with the smaller circles of the countries. The Ocular Intelligence aimed to ‘beautify’ data and present a simple way of discovering which industries are in the room, where they are based, what trends can be deduced and provoke debate around the need to collaborate more. Previous work has included Magic Mirror (AR) installations for Charlotte Tilbury, holographic live show for Burberry with120 million viewers and the world’s largest holographic installation for Alfred Dunhill in Shanghai.

Kristina Dimitrova is the founder of INTERLACED - a media and events platform highlighting the most innovative developments for the future of fashion, retail and beauty. INTERLACED is the space that brings together startups, established companies, academia and the public for discussion about the next wave of the industry. Since its beginning in 2015, INTERLACED has hosted a number of fashion tech catwalk shows in London, Austin and Bangladesh, regular meetups and educational workshops. The platform has been named by Deutsche Telekom as one of the top ten sources for news around fashion innovation. With marketing and strategy background as well as deep understanding of digital channels, INTERLACED’s founder, Kristina Dimitrova often curates and speaks at industry events such as Wear It Berlin, European Fashion Forum, Superhuman Summit, Avantex Paris. She is also a jury and mentor for international fashion tech competitions, including Aarhus Walks on Water and The Festival of Curiosity.

Bushra Burge, Founder of BB Studio, an award-winning creative technology company which focuses on engaging ways to tell stories using a considered and innovative user-centred design process to harness the newest technology impactfully. Recent projects have included engaging immersive stories using virtual reality integrated with proprietary wearable technology used for educational and science communication, fashion marketing. TALK 1 - DataOps: How to make Machine Learning production ready by Bianca Furtuna

New state-of-the-art Machine Learning models are developed every day that surpass human ability in one area or another. Many of them involve a data scientist or a machine learning researcher experimenting with new ideas or neural network architectures in an iterative manner. As more and more companies and individuals are experimenting with machine learning in their own domains, operationalising machine learning models and monitoring data pipelines are becoming critical. In this talk, we are going to explore the fundamentals of building a production-ready machine learning model and the steps needed to operationalising it.

Bianca Furtuna is an Applied Machine Learning Scientist and is a very active member and contributor for Women Who Code London. She is passionate about all things data and using new and emerging technologies to deliver data focused solutions with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Previously, Bianca was a Data Scientist at Elastacloud, where she built multiple machine learning models for forecasting tasks in the energy sector. At the start of her career, Bianca was a Technical Evangelist, working with various organisations to help them improve or architect their cloud solutions and support them in implementing Machine Learning and analytics services.

TALK 2 - Cyber Security and Herd Immunity by Wendy Ng

The dilemmas security professionals face and comparing it with the herd immunity, a form of indirect protection in infectious diseases.

Wendy has over seven years of technical consulting experience, beginning as a network engineer and infrastructure architect before transitioning into security architecture. She has been as a trusted advisor to clients as part of a vendor, a managed service provider and tier-one consultancies. She has worked with clients in telecommunications, financial services and defence, and was part of multi-million-pound transformation programmes for clients in aerospace, banking and shipping. She trained as a scientist and completed her doctoral studies in analytical medical genetics at the University of Oxford. A bit of a technophile and keen collaborator, Wendy also shares her experience online through blogging.

Bushra Burge is the creative director of award winning creative technology studio BB Studio. With a background in science and sustainable design, Bushra cultivates innovation within her multi-disciplinary team. BB Studio's recent projects include immersive stories using VR.

Bushra Burge will giving a keynote speech.

http://events.arts.ac.uk/event/2018/9/18/Steamhack/

10am to 6pm

Steamhack #4 is part of a series of immersive, digitally-themed events organized by the Culture and Enterprise programme at Central Saint Martins. These events are intensive one-day hacks, which explore arts-based and creative responses to our digital futures. Expert guests lead workshops and communicate their views on the future of our post-digital world. All delegates contribute to the creative outcomes of the event.

Steamhack 4: The Brief
How do bodies and technologies interact? How will this relationship evolve? What influence can our life online have on our appearance and identity? This Steamhack will propose the idea of bodies as interfaces of our social lives, online and offline, and how bodies act as a space of both compliance and resistance to new technologies. We will look at how we perform technologies, and how these performances are often political. We will use Donna Haraway’s concept of cyborg bodies to interrogate identity and theory.
