Brief

What would it be like to alter sensory perception and simulate vision through triggering the brain ? Inspired by a family member with impaired sight, Italian curator Micheala D'Andrea invited BB Studio to create an immersive experience which explores this with VR. The piece was demonstrated with leading neuroscientists as part of an experience day: Mind Generated Images: Neuroscience meets Art - Exploring: the new frontiers of sight restoration, brain imaging and their future development.

Feedback from those who attended:

Michela D’Andrea, Art Science Curator : The audio sounds like jarring white noise, but then your pulse creates a rhthym consequently turning it into a tune and you feel it through your whole body, immersed in your own multisensory song.

Creative Process

BB Studio developed this piece during a residency in the forests of Bratislava. Working with sound engineers at the Augmented Attention Lab, an interactive multi-modal haptic-virtual reality wearable was developed. The virtual aspects visualized mental health data with particles and a 3D-painted sculpture wrapped in a diary of forest visuals of stillness. The subject’s pulse rate live-modulated forest sounds and haptically actuated via bone conductance behind the ear.
