“Right beside his cottage,
Never did he see
The beauty of a dewdrop
Glistening on a tree.
The Sundarban forest of southern Bangladesh is a natural paradise. A dense jungle stretching down into the Bay of Bengal, it is the largest mangrove swamp in the world, criss-crossed by a network of creeks and rivulets. “Shundor” means beautiful, and the Sundarban deserves its name. it is a place of unparalleled natural beauty, and for that it has gained worldwide fame.
The Sundarban is the abode of the legendary Royal Bengal Tiger. But tigers are not the only exotic creatures which live there. There are deer and monkeys, crocodiles and pythons, parrots and pelicans, and many other kinds of wildlife for which it is world renowned.
Shundori trees and Golpata palms are among the many tree species found in the forest. The
Sundarban is famed for its honey, which is gathered from the hives of wild bees. The bees
make their nests in the upper branches of tall forest trees, and men from a tribe of honeygatherers
scour the jungle to find them, then climb up high to cut off the honeycombs
dripping with sweet dark hone.”
Digital photoshoot and digital catwalk set in The Sundarbans National Park, consisting of one of the largest mangroves in the world, part in Bangladesh, part in India, is the largest reserve for the endangered Bengal tigers.
